These look fantastic, but I think the grid lines are getting in the way of understanding what is going on clearly. Have you shared these with anyone in the Life community? By the way, you said you sent me a Powers of 10 dvd but I never got it.
The grid lines will be there at the highest level because they’re formed from actual live pixels. I just took screenshots from Golly, so I have no control over whether the lines are there or not. I think it might actually help understanding if the squares doubled in size at each magnification (so that the grid always looks the same size, no matter what the pixel size).
I just posted to the conwaylife.com forum, so we’ll see if anyone there cares.
The box is sitting on my refrigerator with your address on it; I just haven’t been back to the post office since the time I called you.

In that case here’s another tip that might help. If you go to Preferences > View you can turn off the bold grid lines or alter their spacing (any value from 2 to 1000).

You can turn off Golly’s grid lines via the “Show Grid Lines” item in the View menu. Or just hit the L key to toggle the lines.
Ignore my comment — I see you’re talking about the grid lines at the meta level.
Actually, I was talking about both. Thanks for that!
